Wave Serpent - finished !

What a long strange trip it has been for this craft. Starting out based white for future tinting and being a generally light and even toxic colored it ended up being dark and menacing. This was a very good project to get the brush back in the grubby mitts and stop being a couch potato.

Attention grabbing picture

This time around I managed to use a decent piece for taking pictures, the are still shaky, but should get better along with the painting skills :)

We take of with finishing of white base elimination aka base coating

  • Metallic parts are done with GW Leadbelcher.
  • Blacks are once more threated with thinned Abaddon Black.
  • Reds get one more thin layer of Mephiston Red.
  • Bony is of course Screaming Skull.

Getting the underbelly painted. Same black and metallic colors, as on the top side.

Shady shades time

  • Screaming skull gets Seraphim Sepia
  • Metallic parts get Vallejo model Wash for dark vehicles - Black (deluded almost by half with water, its extremely saturating and black straight out of the pot. I'd call it Nuln Oil concentrate with pulp.)
  • Red doesn't get a shade :P Instead its layered with 50 / 30 / 20 (very rough estimate) mix of Vallejo Signal Red (which is actually lipstick pink with metallic parts), Evil Sun Scarlet and plain water.

I somewhat missed the stage here. But its all downfall from here.

  • Reds get slightly lighter layers.
  • Bony parts get layered with Ushabti Bone.
  • Trying to clean a bit of previous mistakes, some better than others.

And then i did my usual late night painter trick - grabbed a glass of rum and forgot half the things I did.
Very Abaddon blackish mix with Ultuan gray was used as a highlight for black parts, and a light dry brush for the same parts.
Temple Guard Blue, as always, shined as a power pew pew highlight on engine intakes / exhausts, and I liked it so much that i could have gotten carried away and eventually done too much of it (and i still like it) :D
PS. extremely light Necron Compound drybrysh / edge highlight to imitate some cheap damage.

Well, its miles better then the white starter model :) Hope you liked the journey of this jinxy little devil and are up to more of half drunken painting reports.

PS. if anybody gives a s...t  theres a choice of whom i get to vandalize next:
- get down and dirty trying to pose and paint my first tau crisis suit (not gonna be your orange or reddish garden gnome)
or
- some fantasy savage waaaaagh orkz

Waiting to hear your comments !
