Wave Serpent - finished !

What a long strange trip it has been for this craft. Starting out based white for future tinting and being a generally light and even toxic colored it ended up being dark and menacing. This was a very good project to get the brush back in the grubby mitts and stop being a couch potato.

Tohaa Gao-Rael (Spitfire), p1

Hi there!

At last, something I can show without much shame. All my previous attempts in painting Infinity minis were fairly passable, but thanks to them being cast in metal, cleaning the crap-job is not a big issue (compared to GW plastic stuff).

Painting GW miniatures is mostly easy -- there are lots of big flat surfaces, details are pretty big, and the cast itself is not that complicated. With Infinity it's a whole different story. The detail level is a lot higher and Tohaa models are usually wrapped in lots of tiny 1mm wide straps and trying to paint these is always a pain in the arse.

Valuable lessons were learned, though. I seem to have finally managed the shadows and highlights on the cape and hood but partly ruined that when I was doing the silvery lining. Next time, I hope, I will have something more to show off.

How to craft anything from fiber glass composite

Hi, everybody.
I wanted to test and show you a very promising technique of attaching tin miniatures together. Unfortunately, both my Infinity starter pack and materials I've ordered for this experiment are still travelling to my post office. So this time I will show you something else.
This summer I was attending a huge LARP event dedicated to Warhammer FB universe as a dark elf, for that I've crafted several druchii helmets. This post describes the full technological process with some photos. You can use the same technology to make any parts of your larp or cosplay costume, or enything else that should be relatively lightweit, be able to withstand some mechanical punishment and have a more or less complex shape.

Tools and materials:
polystyrene foam - same you would use for terraing crafting;
double-sided adhesive tape (non-fabric);
sanding paper;
utility knife;
foam cutter (optional);
light fiberglass fabric (about 50g/m2);
fiberglass matt;
epoxy resin with hardener;
polystyrol resin with hardener;
a lot of basic cheap paint brushes;
mold release wax;
scissors;
respirator;
electric drill;
electric jigsaw;
a set of m4 nuts and bolts;
utility gloves.

WIP Wave Serpent

Hello fellow dojo goers, and lurking by-passers. This week was full of surprises and action. One of them was finally getting the brush in my hand, and kick starting painting again (more like butt kicking self into painting).

I did not manage to achieve much, and its still early work in progress. But taking into account that the model was primed white during the autumn of last year, its finally taking shape.

When i started my dark /light eldar force, i imagined painting them in skull bone, rust and bronze colors, never took vehicles into account. But time went by, I tried a few color schemes on them, and my current force is painted scarcely, in different styles and colors ranging from skull bone, to communist red and traditional blue and green.

Going from there my decision was, f.. it. Just finding a pleasing image of a finished wave serpent for reference and go from the colors there.

ps. feel free to punch me for the crap photos.

White primer (shit job there, quite a lot of paint right from the start)

2nd irregular Cameronians reg.

So, here's my first weeks' work. 2nd irregular Cameronian reg.  Painting tartan is pure hell, need more practice.

20-12-2014 Update: Oniwaban

Hi guys,

Managed to paint my Oniwaban for my JSA.
Sorry for extremely bad image quality, all my camera rechargeable batteries died at once. So i represent you an old mobile phone abomination photo of my oniwaban:

Only a backwiew somehow does not look completely bad. I swear I will re-take pictures with normal camera.

Overall, I really enjoyed painting this bad-ass ninja, sculpt is amazing, great menacing pose and a good balance of details. Hope you'll enjoy it when better photos will be taken.
