Tau XV8 Crisi Suit. Stage One all over again.

Short update on the Crisis Suits.
And on this stage my minds start revolving on a specific thought of hating Tau crisis suits... They kind of look good, maybe they even play good... But I hate painting them.

(Re)Painted So far:
Primer is gray.
Coated with dark green, then washed with proper black wash.
Highlighted with moot green. And some moot green / white mix.
One of them got some plating painted white.

Tohaa Gao-Rael (Spitfire), p3

Painted the backpack today. I know, the pace is kinda slow, but people who know me should know that this is way faster than I usually paint :D
Also, tried to go NMM for the first time. A bit messy, a bit too bright colours, but I like how it started. The irony is, only when I saw the photos I realised what I did wrong :]

UPD: corrected the colours, so now pictures are closer to reality.

45th Highlanders WIP part 2.

During last 10 days almost finished a team of 4 highlanders. Have to deal with faces, blades, boots and bases, and their done. Hope to finish in a couple of days. Sorry for the quality of the photos, took them with my fridge. Will post good quality pics as soon as the boys are finished.
regards,
George

T-34-85 1/100 scale, Flames of War

This is my first T-34-85, for Soviet Union 3rd Guards Tank Army.

Also it was my first atempt to paint 1/100 scale.

Next few weeks I will paint other tanks, and post them with mini tutorials about weathering, paint chiping and more.

Tohaa Gao-Rael (Spitfire), p2

Didn't have any time these 10 days, so not so much progress. But some progress is still better than no progress at all! This time I continued to add shadows and highlights on the cape.

45th Highlanders

Started applying base colors to my 45th highlander regiment. After the first experience with tartans, decided to make the kilts "tactical", for now. Need more brush control.

Tau XV8 Crisis Suit mockery

Well, honestly i had higher expectations and hopes for it. But on the scale of craptasticeness of gluing process... crisis suit foot to leg joints come 3rd place on my list, right after any dark eldar  infantry model with 2 handed gun, and eldar wraithguard hand - palm joints.

My hands cant bear the base -> paint -> glue process with this model... so the next batch is going to be glued right off the bat, then based and painted... screw lost details.

Starting tau as a weaboo grimdark comunists vietcong style... Crisis suits were to be painted green.
But as my only green experience are a few shiny dark angels a year back, and i never painted any historicall / tank green model - this was my first time trying to imitate green colored metal piece of machinery.

Came out below average as i used too many washes and too little layers of paint to give distinctive colors.

So any friendly advice about painting green metal machinery is very welcome.

Stuff to do till next time:

- come up with lightning effects (undecided on plasma/melta color to use yet... )
- try different wash / layer options on the other 2 suits... choose the best suit as the commander :D
- finish the squad and get to work on some other unfinished models...

Options for other models are:
- squad of dire avengers to match the serpent form previous posts,
- dark eldar squad in light colors which is half done
- newly ebayed tau infantry.

Oh yeah more pictures of glue heresy below the cut...

Dark Angels: Deathwing Command squad WIP

Today is 10 January and that means a brand new update.
I've been working lately on my Dark Angels Deathwing command squad, ignore the sergeant, he will join other squad as DW Com. squads don't have sergeants in them. :)
The squad is 80% done, figures require some final touches, bases and some small bits like daggers, purity seals, a deathwing banner and other knowots. So here they are:

Also wanted to share Master of the Deathwing, Belial:

So, have fun and happy painting!

Infinity JSA: Oniwaban revisited and other stuff

Hi guys,

Finally took some photos with a decent camera of my oniwaban, just as I sweared:

Looks much better, huh? Finally colors are close to what they are on a minuature.

Didn't wanted to make a post with only one picture so here is the bonus.
Aragoto bikers in distinctive "kawasaki" paint scheme:
Girl biker, check the kanji freehand.
Spitfire MF, check kanji freehand on a bike too :)

Next one is domaru butai heavy infantry with dreaded chain rifle:
And the last, but not the least, a HMG wielding keisotsu, ready to backup frontline troops with a hail on bullets.

Also, bought myself a moto.tronica scenery pack, pretty neat cardboard scenery and a paper mat. Not bad for the price:

Kempeitai with a keisotsu butai link, chilling on the top of moto.tronica building.

Hope you enjoyed it guys, C&C welcome.

TIP: Cork enlargement

For stone imitation on bases I prefer to use vine and champagne corks. After x-mas and New Year celebrations you definitely have some.

Did you know that regular champagne cork is bigger that it is? Let's enlarge!

1) Take corks;
2) Put corks in boiling water;

3) Boil them for 10-15 min;
4) ....
5) PROFIT!!!

So what you get?! Bigger round shaped cork.
See picture below, left cork before boiling, right same size and shape cork after 10 min boiling.
